Day 10 - Foundation Basics

The base makeup is the most important step in any girl's makeup routine. It can make or break your look. If you get your base right then everything else will fall in place!
Foundations are a necessity to get flawless and glowing skin. But they are also equally difficult to pick. Finding the perfect shade is always a hassle and definitely the most difficult part of makeup shopping. And you know what's worse? Spending hours and thousands of rupees only to realize that you have picked a wrong shade! If this has happened to you then keep reading.
In today's post we are going to give you tips on picking the perfect shade and just in case you have a wrong shade we will tell you how you can customize it to suit your skin!

How to pick the perfect shade?

Finding the right foundation may seem tricky but it's actually quite simple if you follow some basic tricks. There is a wide variety of foundations available out there so make sure you know what you are looking for or you are just going to get confused!
  • The first and the most important thing is to figure out what kind of a foundation you  are looking for. Do you want sheer coverage, medium coverage or full coverage? Sheer coverage is basically just very mild coverage that you will get from BB creams or sheer foundations. They are great if you want something lightweight and dewy. Medium coverage foundations are the ones you could use to cover up light discolorations, red blemishes, scars or freckles. They don't cover everything completely leaving a natural look. Full coverage foundations are strong and can cover any kind of blemishes, spots or scars on your skin completely giving you an airbrushed finish. You generally won't need to use a concealer when you are using full coverage foundations.
  • Once you have figured out the coverage you need to decide if you want a matte foundation or a dewy one. Both look great and it just depends on what occasion you are planning to wear it. Matte foundations are great especially for summer because they keep your makeup in place and also prevent your face from shining. Dewy ones work great for occasions when you want that extra glow, especially for evening events.
  • The next step is to actually go out there and finding the right shade. The first thing you must remember is to never buy a new foundation online. You can buy it online if you are restocking but don't do that if you are figuring out your shade because no matter where you buy it from you will never get the right shade online!
  • Always try the foundation on your jawline and blend. If it disappears in your skin then it's the right shade. Don't try it on your wrist to decide because the color of your wrist will be slightly different from that on your face.
  • Always try to look for a build-able foundation. What build-able means is that you can layer it up on your skin to get the coverage you want without it looking cakey on your face,
Even after being super cautious sometimes we just end up buying the wrong shade. Don't be ashamed of it, happens to all of us. And just in case you have made that mistake then don't worry there are ways to fix that without throwing away the bottle!

Customizing your foundation

  1. The best way to get your perfect shade is by mixing your existing foundations. Now this is more of a trial and error method. Mix a drop of the foundations together to see what you end up with.
  2. Concealers are generally lighter than your foundation shade so you could mix that to your foundation to make a dark foundation lighter. Another way to lighten your foundation is by adding your favorite moisturizer to it
  3. In case you have a foundation that is too light for you then you can darken it by adding some bronzer to it. Another great tip would be to mix your cream contour to your light foundation to make it darker. :D
Always remember that your foundation should look like your skin and not like tonnes of makeup. We hope this post helped you solve your foundation woes. By following little tips you can save yourself a lot of time and money.
